“A River Once Grand” got off to a great start today with travel to Las Vegas, including stellar window-seat views of the Colorado River’s Upper Basin, Lake Mead, and Hoover Dam. A quick lap on the strip in our trusty steeds (we definitely get the appeal of minivans) gave insight into the fruits of the Colorado River’s hydroelectric power and the counterintuitive presence of such a lavish place in the middle of the desert.
We then crossed the river at Hoover Dam and made our way to Kingman, Arizona where we‘ll stay for the night before rigging our rafts in the morning and entering the canyon.
This will likely be our last update until Thursday, so wish us good weather and no upstream wind!
